It’s true, like a good neighbor State Farm is there. In fact, the insurance company recently supported its Atlanta neighbor, the Constellations Center for Equity in Computing at Georgia Tech (Constellations), with a $30,000 gift for the centers Computing Equity Project.
The project is responsible for implementing advanced placement computer science courses in seven high schools in the Atlanta Public School (APS) district while also providing professional development and support to the class teachers. Now in its second year, the project has already impacted hundreds of Georgia high school students.
State Farm technology manager Kevin Burke emphasized that a core part of State Farms culture is to support its communities not only when something unfortunate happens to them, but to also invest in the community and help its citizens prosper.
“As we look towards the future and being able to better service our customers, we want to invest in the next generation of technologists and scientists. We’re always looking for impactful ways to create new opportunities and avenues to careers in technology, and Constellations is doing great work through this program. We glad to support them as they do amazing work in Atlanta,” said Myles Mitchom, State Farm Public Affairs.
State Farms gift will primarily be used to support the Constellations fellows as they provide training to APS teachers and build a hybrid online-instructional model for advanced computing courses.
“We are immensely grateful for State Farms support. It is crucial for us to continue providing our teachers with high-quality support from our fellows and to expanding access to computing education to more and more students in Atlanta and beyond,” said Lien Diaz, Constellations director of educational innovation and leadership.
The gift is scheduled to go into effect in 2020.
