Yolanda Payne, a fellow at the Constellations Center for Equity in Computing at Georgia Tech, has been selected as a 2020-21 CS for All Teachers Community Ambassador.

Selected through a blind review process from a pool of more than 60 applicants, Payne is one of 12 ambassadors. The group consists of PreK through grade 12 computer science educators at national, district/county, and school levels from across the United States.

As a member of the fourth cohort of ambassadors, Payne will lead engagement activities within the virtual community of teachers. The group has met virtually for the past two months to collaborate and strategically plan how they will support the community of more than 7,000 computer science teachers nationwide.

During their one-year term, ambassadors will also facilitate Twitter chats and a CS for All Teacher’s discussion group, write blog posts, plan and host webinars, and collaborate with a team at the American Institutes for Research (AIR) on other projects. Ambassadors receive a stipend from the National Science Foundation as well as ongoing support and professional development from AIR throughout their term.

“Being chosen as a CS for All Teachers Community Ambassador is a compliment to the work that I feel is my professional purpose — exposing students and teachers to the opportunities computer science affords. The sense of community is so important in education — especially for teachers who often work in isolation. It is an honor and a privilege to be able to contribute to the community in this way,” said Payne.
